Busting Top Myths about Grad Solutions Online High School Diploma Program

You may have heard some things about Grad Solutions or seen the posts on social media. This might have ignited some questions for you. At GS, the team often gets asked questions about the program and what it’s all about.

In this article, we’d like to dispel some myths and answer some common questions about our dropout recovery program!

Myth #1 - It's just an online school for high school students.

TRUTH: It’s not an online school at all. Grad Solutions is a dropout recovery program, and it’s so much more than a school! It’s been designed for students who need a different type of education than what traditional school provides. GS provides wrap-around support for students so they can focus on graduating.

Myth #2 - It’s not really free.

TRUTH: It’s 100% free to students living in Arizona. It’s funded by the State of Arizona and it’s paid for through ARS § 15-901.06. Students pay nothing — no enrollment fee, no books to buy, and there’s no cost to participate in a graduation ceremony when you finish

Myth #3 - It’s a GED program.

TRUTH: If you become a GS student, you will work toward an accredited high school diploma, not a G.E.D. This is an important distinction, especially for students who want to join the military or another career where people with a high school diploma are considered a higher tier.

Myth #4 - It takes a long time.

TRUTH: Some people believe that earning a high school diploma takes a long time and that a GED is easier to obtain. The time it takes to graduate depends on several factors. Some students graduate in as little as two months while others may take a couple years. It depends on how many credits you’ve already earned, what you can test out of, and how fast you complete classes online.

Every student has their own learning plan customized to their journey. It’s based on how many credits they’ve already earned. In addition, students can take prescriptive tests to test out of course material they already know. They can also satisfy elective credits with hours worked at their jobs.

Myth #5 - It’s only for high school-age students.

TRUTH: Grad Solutions is for Arizona students starting from age 16 up to their 22nd birthday. For those aged 22 and above, there is a program called the Arizona Workforce Diploma program available through Smart Schools. Basically, anyone in Arizona who needs their high school diploma has the opportunity to get one through a dropout recovery program!

Myth #6 - I’ll have to learn all on my own.

TRUTH: There is a team of people who work with you to see you through to graduation. During your time at GS, there will be online instruction but there will be live teachers available to tutor you. These teachers are available online, you just need to schedule time to meet with them or come into a HUB location for in-person tutoring.

Myth #7 - You can’t do it (get your diploma).

TRUTH: You really CAN get your diploma, even if you think you can’t. We’ll help you get there, one step at a time! That’s really at the heart of what Grad Solutions does. The GS team is committed to helping you get to graduation and beyond. Everyone from the Enrollment Specialists, Student Support Counselors during onboarding, all the way through to your assigned Mentor. Everyone will be rooting for you!
