Your Future Career Possibilities are Astounding with the Right Job Training

As a high school-age student, you might be starting to think about your future. “What should I do after graduation?”, “Should I go to college?”, or “How do I make enough money?” If you’re not thinking about it, it’s definitely a good time to start!

In Arizona, many teens struggle to figure out what to do after high school. They know that a four-year college or university isn’t for everyone but they still need to make a livable wage. It may seem like the options are limited but the truth is —there are more career readiness programs than most people are aware. The state offers many programs to prepare young adults for a career. They can help them review career options and choose a path that’s right for them and help them get trained for that job.

There are more career possibilities than most young adults are aware of, here we share some of them!

Become an Apprentice and Get Paid

The College Depot is a free program, provided by the Phoenix Public Library, that provides  assistance with earning a high school diploma, GED, getting into college, or becoming career ready.

If you’re already in high school or completed a high school education, one of the job training options offered by College Depot is an apprenticeship. In apprenticeship programs, the apprentice will receive hands-on career training in programs such as health care, construction, information technology, and geospatial careers.

On average, apprenticeships earn a starting salary of $50,000 a year while gaining an equivalent to a 2-year or a 4-year college degree. See Craft a Profession for more information about apprenticeships.

Cosmetology Opportunities for Students in the West Valley

Cosmetology (beauty school) can be a great option for those who enjoy helping people look great. There is flexibility in how you work —behind a chair, in your own salon, freelance, or in industries such as film, makeup artist, editorial, TV, beauty blogger/vlogger, and more. Some cosmetologists even get to travel.

For those that want to attend a locally owned and operated cosmetology school, D'Image Beauty College offers courses for cosmetology, nail techs, estheticians, beauticians, barbering, hairstyling, laser tattoo removal, and make-up. The school has two locations, one on 35th Avenue in Phoenix and another on Western Avenue in Avondale. There is a cost for tuition, however, those who enroll can finish the full-time program in 9 months or the part-time program in 11 to 14 months.
