Certificates & Industry Certifications You Can Earn During High School

There are many opportunities during your high school courses or after graduation when you can take classes that will allow you to earn a certification. Any additional certificate or certification you earn above your high school diploma will enhance your resume and make you a more highly qualified candidate at a job interview. 

This does not necessarily mean you need to take more classes to graduate with the certificate, in some cases you can be strategic in selecting your courses to earn it while you are in school.

Industry Certification Programs in Arizona

  • The ASU Coding Boot Camp equips you with the core skills needed for a career in web development and technology through dynamic classes.

  • The Statewide Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL) includes eligible training providers and training programs that are approved by the Local Workforce Development Areas (LWDAs) to provide training services to eligible Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) participants. Training programs must meet state and local requirements of in-demand industry sectors and occupations in Arizona, and result in a recognized credential.

  • Learn the skills you need to get hired in one of Arizona's fastest-growing industries – in just 10 days - for free. The intensive 10-day course equips students with the necessary skills to pursue entry-level positions as semiconductor technicians. Learn more about this certification.

    Semiconductors an essential component of our electronic devices and is a flourishing industry in Arizona. Maricopa Community College created an accelerated Semiconductor Technician Quick Start program. They partnered with Intel on the curriculum to ensure the program features the base skills you need to secure a job in this fast-growing industry.

    Upon completion of the program, students can take an examination to obtain their certification. If a student is interested in continuing their education they can apply the credits earned towards an advanced engineering degree. The course tuition is $270.00, and is reimbursable with government grants, meaning in-state students can take the course for free.

  • This program is a 100% online, self-paced course designed to get students ready for a career in dental assisting in 90 days or less. Learn more about this certification.

  • Through Altrain Assisting Academy, you’ll receive hands-on learning, real-world labs, and simulations to gain the skills for a rewarding career in Phlebotomy. This 5 week program is both in-person and hybrid and also has support with job placement. Tuition approximately $3,500.00. Learn more about this certification.

  • This course through Coconino Community College will prepare you for success in the rewarding field of medical billing and coding as you learn about legal, ethical, and regulatory concepts central to this field, including HIPAA compliance, official coding guidelines, and third-party payer requirements. To become a Certified Medical Coder, you need to take an online training course that teaches you the CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II code sets. Most employers are looking for applicants to have a medical coding certification. After successfully completing this course, you will have the knowledge and skillset to become a medical coder and can sit for one of three national certification exams included in your tuition:

    • NHA's Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)

    • AAPC's Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

    • AHIMA's Certified Coding Associate (CCA).

  • Offered through Coursera & Yavapai Community College. Google specific certification programs can teach you in-demand skills that will have you job-ready in less than six months. Programs offered:

  • OSHA's Safety and Health Fundamentals Certificate program support's OSHA's mission by training public and private sector employees in occupational safety and health to reduce incident rates for workers. Participants have the opportunity to earn certificates for Construction, Maritime, and General Industry training. This professional certificate can be earned as a standalone credential, or as a step towards the Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) credential.Estimated cost to complete the SSH program is $2,500.   • The Maricopa Community Colleges offer over 100 “fast track” certificate programs. These certificates are designed to prepare students for professions with higher earning potential and more job opportunities. Some are also industry-recognized credentials that typically help qualify graduates for employment in specific fields such as: Applied Technology, Behavioral Science and Human Services, Business, Entrepreneurialism, and Management, Computer and Information Technology, Education, Health Sciences and Visual and Performing Arts.

  • The University of Arizona, offers 12 Professional Education Certificates. Everything from AutoCAD Fundamentals to Spanish/English Translation Certificate Program. Ranging in price from approximately $1,500.00- $3,300.00 depending on the program. These certificate programs are a good way to earn an entry position in a new field.
